Faulkes Telescope to help boost STEM in Wales

The Faulkes Telescopes are going to be used as part of a multi-million pound education project, funded by the EU and the Welsh government. The Trio Sci Cymru project will help boost STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) in Wales, through visits to secondary school across Wales over three years.

Students at a number of the schools will be lucky enough to use the Faulkes Telescopes for a number of projects over the three years, such as learning how the telescopes work; how to manipulate astronomical images; and imaging and studying specific objects. The project will work with the same students over the three years, allowing them to become confident using the telescopes and undertake astronomy research projects.

In addition, the students will get to use other resources that are to be designed by member of the Faulkes Telescope team, including virtual reality, 3D space shows, meteorites and Mars based activities.

You can find out more about the project as a whole on the BBC News website, or on the Faulkes Telescope associated projects page.
